NLC dissolves Edo council leadership, appoints caretaker committee

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dissolved the leadership of the Edo State Council due to unethical conduct and a gross breach of the constitution. The decision, effective from August 11, 2025, was communicated in a letter to the Minister of Labour and Employment by the NLC Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah.

A caretaker committee has been appointed by the NLC national leadership to oversee the affairs of the council until fresh elections can be held. The committee includes members from various unions such as ASUU, NUTGTWN, JUSUN, MWUN, and NUCFRLANMPE.

Upah confirmed that the interim body is empowered to manage the council's operations and facilitate the election process for new substantive officers.
