NNPP Publicity Secretary Johnson Resigns Ahead of 2027 Elections

Johnson, the Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), announced his resignation effective May 4, 2026, in a letter addressed to the chairman of the NNPP ward G1, Shitta Ogunlana, in Surulere Local Government Area, Lagos State. In his resignation letter, Johnson expressed appreciation for the opportunities he had to serve in various capacities, including as the national auditor and former spokesman of the NNPP.

He thanked the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) for their support during his tenure. Johnson explained that the current political climate necessitates a united opposition force on a broader platform.

Although he did not disclose his next political destination, sources within the NNPP indicated that he is expected to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. This development follows the Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Kwankwaso's formal alignment with the NDC in Abuja.
