NCC Launches Device Tracking System to Block Fake Phones in Nigeria

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced a Device Management System (DMS) to track and block fake, stolen, or cloned devices connected to Nigerian mobile networks. With over 132 million unique mobile devices active in Nigeria, the system aims to prevent revenue loss, security risks, and cybercrimes associated with counterfeit phones.

The initiative, developed through a public-private partnership, will blacklist stolen devices by their IMEI numbers, similar to systems in India and Lebanon. The NCC emphasizes the importance of proper device registration to combat phone theft and protect national security interests.
