Nigerian Celebrities Transition to U.S. Military Service

In a notable trend, at least four Nigerian celebrities have publicly announced their enlistment in the U.S. military over the past two years. Joseph Momodu, who completed basic combat training in April 2026, became the first known male Nollywood actor to enlist.

He has featured in films such as "Come Nigeria" and the television series "Tinsel" and "Soul Sister." Momodu cited his late father's legacy as a former Nigerian police officer as a significant influence on his decision. Princess Chinek enlisted in the U.S.

Army in December 2024 and relocated to the United States, known for her role in "Love Sister" and "Stormi Heart Master War." Mayowa Dosu, also enlisting in 2024, is recognized for her work in films like "Fear" and "Mamami Compromise." Grace Chari Bassei, formerly known as Belinda Effah, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 2025 after becoming an American citizen and completing boot camp.

Each of these celebrities has expressed pride in serving their new country.
