North Korea Condemns US-South Korea Military Drills

North Korea condemned the military drills conducted by the United States and South Korea, which it described as an expansion into a nuclear alliance with Japan. The annual Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercises are set to occur from August 17 to 27 and will focus on countering drone operations, GPS interference, and cyberattacks, reflecting concerns over North Korea’s advancing military capabilities.

This statement marks Pyongyang’s first official reaction to this year's exercises. North Korea has consistently criticized these drills, claiming they escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

In its warning, North Korea pledged to strengthen its nuclear deterrent, accusing the United States of adopting a nuclear strategy that could lower the threshold for nuclear weapon use. The warning follows a ballistic missile launch from the Wonsan area towards the eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula, occurring six days after another missile was launched from the same location.
