North-West Governors Address Skills Gap and Industrial Decline at Summit

North-West Governors, including Abba Yusuf and others, highlighted the region's crisis at a summit, blaming a skills gap and industrial collapse. They proposed a regional approach to tackle insecurity, poverty, and youth unemployment.

Governor Sani of Kaduna and Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe emphasized the need for a coordinated effort, leading to the establishment of the North West Development Commission. The summit also addressed challenges in education, with Kano Governor Abba Yusuf proposing a sub-regional education transformation body.

Prof. Isa Ali Pantami traced the region's decline to the collapse of major industrial cities like Kaduna and Kano in the 1970s-1980s.

He recommended a dual education system to bridge the skills gap. The summit aimed to enhance intelligence sharing, strengthen security collaboration, and support displaced communities.
