Crown Princess Mette-Marit Successfully Undergoes Lung Transplant

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, aged 52, has successfully undergone a lung transplant at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, due to a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis that caused significant breathing difficulties. Her condition, diagnosed in 2018, deteriorated notably over the past six months, leading doctors to place her on the lung transplant waitlist on June 5, 2023.

Following standard practices for recent transplant recipients, she is expected to remain hospitalized for several weeks. Crown Prince Haakon, her husband, will reduce his public engagements to spend time with her during her recovery.

The announcement of the transplant comes just two days after the Oslo court sentenced Mette-Marit’s 29-year-old son from a previous relationship, Mariu Borg Hoibi, to four years in prison for two counts of rape, which he denies and plans to appeal.
