IPOB Lawyer Calls for Protection of Peter Obi Ahead of 2027

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a lawyer and human rights activist, raised serious concerns regarding the safety of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections. Ejiofor, who is the lead counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to protect Obi and the democratic process in Nigeria.

His statement followed Obi's recent expressions of fear for his safety during a prime-time interview on Arise TV, where he questioned whether he would remain alive until the election. Ejiofor emphasized that such concerns should not be dismissed as mere campaign rhetoric and urged vigilance from all responsible institutions.

He noted that recent political developments, including the obstruction of Obi's convoy in Benue, have created a troubling atmosphere for opposition politicians. Ejiofor called for the Federal Government, security agencies, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the safety of all presidential candidates.
