Nigeria Launches Online Birth and Death Registration Platform

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a new digital platform that enables citizens to register births and deaths, apply for birth attestation, correct civil registration records, and verify certificates online. This initiative, introduced by the National Population Commission (NPC) and announced by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Tuesday, aims to digitize civil registration services across Nigeria.

The self-service platform is designed to eliminate long queues and paperwork previously associated with obtaining birth and death certificates. Birth registration for children under five years remains free at NPC registration centres, while online self-service birth registration incurs a fee of N5,000.

Applicants must meet specific criteria, including the child being born in Nigeria and at least one parent being a Nigerian citizen. Death registration remains free, requiring the informant's National Identification Number.

The platform is accessible via the NPC website, and assistance is available at NPC registration centres nationwide.
