NPC Chairman Dr. Aminu Yusuf Passes Away at 66

The National Population Commission (NPC) announced the death of its Executive Chairman, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, at the age of 66, following a brief illness in Abuja. A statement from Mrs. Adelayo Serifat Olurode, the director of the public affairs department, confirmed his passing.

Dr. Yusuf was appointed as the eighth substantive chairman of the NPC by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on December 3, 2025. His leadership focused on a seven-point agenda aimed at enhancing the commission's effectiveness.

The NPC described his death as a significant loss, recognizing him as a dedicated patriot and compassionate leader committed to national development and reliable demographic data. Born on April 15, 1960, in Wushishi, Niger State, Yusuf had a notable public service career, including roles as executive chairman of Wushishi Local Government Area and a member-elect of the Niger State House of Assembly.

The NPC expressed condolences to President Tinubu, the Federal Government, and Yusuf's family, praying for his soul and emphasizing the importance of accurate demographic data for national planning.
