NPFL Clubs Demand Clarity on N1 Billion Prize Money

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs will convene on Tuesday in Abuja to seek clarity regarding the recently announced N1 billion prize money for the 2026/27 season. The announcement by the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has left clubs in shock due to the absence of prior discussions.

Clubs expressed concerns about the implications of the prize money on their participation, emphasizing that they cannot compete effectively without clarity on the financial structure. The NSC chairman stated that the league champion will receive a minimum of 500 million naira, while the runner-up will earn 300 million naira, and third place will receive 200 million naira.

Additionally, NPFL players are expected to earn a minimum of 2 million naira per month, subject to official confirmation. The current champion, Rangers International FC Enugu, anticipates the new season to kick off towards the end of August, barring unforeseen circumstances.
