FCT FA Chairman Calls for Reforms After NPFL Prize Boost

Adam Moham, chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Football Association, praised the decision by the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) to increase the prize money for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champion to N1 billion, up from the previous N200 million. This announcement was made during a high-level meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

The runner-up will receive N800 million, while the third-place team will earn N700 million, with other clubs receiving financial rewards based on their final standings. Moham emphasized that while the increase in prize money reflects the potential of Nigerian football, it alone will not transform the domestic game without improvements in governance, infrastructure, and commercial operations.

He stressed the need for clubs to adopt sustainable business models and for corporate Nigeria to engage genuinely in football development. Additionally, the NSC announced a significant increase in the minimum monthly salary for NPFL players to N2 million, up from N150,000, as part of efforts to improve player welfare and reduce talent exodus abroad.
