Nigerian Railway Corporation Accuses Oyo Local Government of Destroying Railway Assets

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has accused the Ibadan South West Local Government Council in Oyo State of destroying railway assets worth millions of naira. The NRC's Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, stated that the local government council, led by Chairman Kehinde Adeyemi Amada, allegedly vandalized NRC properties along the rail corridor.

The incident reportedly involved individuals dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms and operatives of the Amotekun security network. The NRC condemned the destruction of rail assets, including sleepers, signal poles, billboards, and fences.

The NRC emphasized that such actions violate federal laws protecting railway rights and infrastructure. Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the Managing Director of the NRC, called on the Oyo State Governor to intervene and address the situation to prevent further lawlessness and protect railway workers.

The NRC affirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order despite the challenges.
