NRC Orders Investigation into Lecturer's Assault at Station

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has condemned the assault of Dr. Mikail Abdussalam, a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, which reportedly occurred on March 4, 2026, at the Obafemi Awolowo Train Station in Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Dr. Abdussalam was allegedly assaulted by NRC staff while he was assisting his sister to board a train to Lagos.

The NRC's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, stated that the corporation views the incident seriously and emphasized that harassment and intimidation of passengers are unacceptable.

An immediate investigation has been ordered to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, and personnel found to have acted contrary to the NRC's professional public service code of conduct will face appropriate disciplinary measures. The NRC expressed sincere regret over the unfortunate incident and extended apologies to Dr.

Abdussalam for the distress caused, reaffirming its commitment to treating all passengers and visitors with dignity and respect.
