Folashad Oluwafemiayo Named Captain for 2026 Commonwealth Games

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has appointed Folashad Oluwafemiayo as the captain of Nigeria's team for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026. Hon. Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the NSC, stated that the decision to appoint Oluwafemiayo was based on merit, highlighting her exceptional professional achievements and character.

Oluwafemiayo is a multiple gold medalist and former world champion in para powerlifting, having established herself as one of the world's finest para athletes. She has won multiple Paralympic World Championships and Commonwealth titles, setting a world record of 152.5 kg at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Her leadership qualities are expected to inspire the team, which aims to excel in sportsmanship and pursue podium finishes at the Commonwealth Games.
