Enekwechi Named Team Nigeria's Male Captain for 2026 Games

The Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) has appointed Chukwuebuka Enekwechi as the male captain of Team Nigeria for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland. Enekwechi, a shot put star and 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist, will co-lead the team with Folashad Oluwafemiayo, a two-time Olympic champion who serves as the female captain.

The announcement was made by the NSC's Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, who noted that Enekwechi's selection aligns with the commission's vision of providing mentorship to the country's young athletes.

Enekwechi, 33, is also the current African champion and 2019 African Games champion. The Nigerian team is expected to depart for a three-week training camp in Aberdeen on Thursday, July 2, 2026, ahead of the Commonwealth Games, which commence on July 23, 2026.

The team will wear apparel designed by Puma, which will be unveiled on Wednesday, July 1.
