Oluwafemiayo Appointed Captain of Team Nigeria for 2026 Games

Folashad Oluwafemiayo has been named the captain of Team Nigeria for the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026. The announcement was made by Hon.

Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, who emphasized that the decision was based on merit and the need for a leader who embodies the values of Nigerian sports. Oluwafemiayo is a distinguished athlete, recognized as a multiple gold medalist and former world champion in para powerlifting.

She has consistently demonstrated resilience and excellence throughout her career, winning multiple Paralympic and world championship titles. Notably, she set a new world record of 152.5 kg at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championship held in Tbilisi, Georgia, and won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the heavyweight event.

Her leadership qualities are expected to inspire the entire Team Nigeria.
