NSCDC Arrests Nine for Vandalism in Gombe State

On Thursday, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Gombe State Command paraded nine suspects involved in the vandalism and theft of critical infrastructure, including electricity installations and railway materials. The arrests were made in response to activities that caused prolonged power outages affecting over 30 communities in the Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area.

Among those arrested were Umar Mohammed, 32, a motorcycle spare-parts dealer; Adamu Hamisu, 30, a scrap dealer; Abass Abdulkadir, 25, an okada rider; and Bala Suleman, 25, also an okada rider. Other suspects included Babangida Mohammed, 19, a scrap dealer, and Abdullahi Garba, 39, a scrap dealer.

Abdulaziz Abubakar was caught vandalizing a transformer, while Inuwa Abubakar was arrested with 10 railway sleepers. Bashir Haruna, 20, was also apprehended for allegedly stealing copper wires.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer, CSC Buhari Saad, emphasized the corps' commitment to protecting national infrastructure and called on residents to provide information to prevent vandalism. Aliyu Ibrahim, Secretary of Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area, commended the NSCDC for addressing the ongoing issue of vandalism.
