NUJ Condemns Ikire Killings, Urges Police Action

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, condemned the killing of two individuals near the Naira and Kobo Motor Park in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area. The NUJ also expressed concern over an attack on a police patrol team that responded to the incident, which resulted in injuries to two police officers and the destruction of a patrol vehicle.

In a statement signed by NUJ Chairman Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin and Secretary Comrade Olalekan Akindoju, the council described the violence as a significant threat to public safety and urged the Osun State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation. They called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killings and the attack on police personnel.

The NUJ welcomed the new Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, urging him to focus on intelligence-led and community policing. They also emphasized the need for professionalism and accountability in police operations and encouraged residents to cooperate with security agencies.
