Nigeria Union of Teachers Directs FCT Teachers to Join Ongoing Strike

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has instructed primary and secondary school teachers to participate in a strike organized by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) starting on January 26, 2026. The strike action was jointly announced in a communiqué signed by the NUT's state chairman Abdullahi Shafa, state secretary Margaret Jethro, and public secretary Ibukun Adekey.

The decision to strike follows the Nigeria Labour Congress's directive to affiliate unions in the FCT to escalate industrial action. The NUT emphasized the need for a unified front to address teachers' welfare concerns.

The union urged its members to remain steadfast and promised updates on the unfolding situation. The strike was triggered by unresolved issues such as non-remittance of pensions, deductions, unpaid overheads, and other welfare-related grievances.

The NUT reaffirmed its commitment to negotiations until all outstanding demands affecting teachers are met.
