NWDC and Partners Forge Agricultural Framework for North-West

The North West Development Commission (NWDC), led by Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Prof. Maaji, held a strategic meeting on Tuesday at its headquarters in Kano. The meeting aimed to develop a comprehensive framework for agricultural transformation and food security in the North-West region.
Participants included representatives from notable agricultural research institutions such as IITA, ICRISAT, HarvestPlus, and others. Prof. Maaji outlined the NWDC's vision, established in 2024 by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the NWDC Establishment Act on July 24, 2024.
The North-West consists of seven states and has a population exceeding 70 million, with a significant youth demographic. The NWDC focuses on seven mandate pillars, including agriculture and security.
Prof. Maaji stressed the historical significance of agriculture in national development and the need to address insecurity to achieve food security. The meeting concluded with a commitment to develop a research-driven framework to modernize agriculture and empower local communities.
