NYSC Launches Free Medical Outreach in Abia Community

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) initiated its 2026 second-quarter edition of the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers with a free medical outreach at Umuda-Isingwu Community Hall in Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia State, on Thursday. NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Alhaji Yunusa Tanimu, stated that the program aims to bridge healthcare gaps in underserved communities.

The initiative mobilizes corps medical personnel, with support from drugs and equipment donated by individuals and organizations, to provide free healthcare services, including general consultations, health screenings, dental care, eye examinations, immunizations, and health education. Tanimu praised the corps medical team for their volunteerism and encouraged community members to utilize the services.

He acknowledged the support of Smart Iheoma, the Executive Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area, and the Chima Anyaso Foundation for sponsoring the program. Tanimu called for continued stakeholder support to expand the initiative's reach in Abia State, emphasizing the importance of health for community prosperity.
