NYSC and Women Ministry Collaborate on Rural Healthcare

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has partnered with the Ministry of Women Affairs to enhance rural healthcare services in Nigeria. This partnership was formalized during a courtesy visit by the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, to the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, in Abuja.

Brigadier General Nafiu highlighted the NYSC's extensive network of healthcare professionals, who can support the Ministry's health interventions. He mentioned the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), which has been providing free medical outreach since 2014, utilizing Corps Members with various medical qualifications.

The recent donation of two mobile medical clinics by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu is expected to enhance healthcare delivery to women and children in underserved areas. The partnership will also focus on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development, with Corps Members transferring skills to women in their communities.

Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim expressed readiness to collaborate and proposed appointing focal persons to guide the implementation of the partnership.
