NYSC Corps Members Launch Anti-Drug Campaign in Schools

A week before the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Fatih Lawal-Garu participated in a campaign titled “Promoting Drug-Free Schools: A Corper Initiative” organized by NYSC corps members. The event took place at Parliament Secondary School and Government Secondary School in Apo, FCT.

Abdulhameed Yushau Shuaib, a Mass Communication graduate from Bayero University serving at NITDA, led the initiative. Deputy Commander Aliyu Omama from NDLEA joined the campaign, delivering a sobering message about the impact of drug abuse on society, including its links to domestic violence and crime.

He discussed commonly abused substances and emphasized the importance of prevention over cure. Deborah Dada, representing NITDA’s Director General, encouraged students to reject drugs and pursue digital skills, highlighting the opportunities technology offers.

The engagement aimed to confront the issue of drug abuse among youth, promoting awareness and prevention strategies.
