Obasanjo Mourns Ex-PDP Chairman Bamanga Tukur's Death

Former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo expressed profound sorrow over the death of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who died on Saturday, three days before his 91st birthday. Tukur, born on September 15, 1935, in Adamawa State, served as the governor of the old Gongola State after being elected in 1982, but his tenure was cut short by a military coup in December 1983.

In a statement titled ‘Tribute to a colossus of public service and industrial development: Alhaji Bamanga Tukur’, issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo described Tukur as a long-time associate and a testament to patriotism and public service. He recalled Tukur’s impactful roles, including his leadership at the Nigerian Ports Authority and as Minister of Industries, emphasizing his commitment to national productivity.

Obasanjo extended condolences to Tukur's family and the people of Adamawa State, praying for Tukur's eternal rest.
