Obi Supports Anyaoku's Call for Regional Governance in Nigeria

Barr. Chimezie Obi, the President-General of the Obosi Development Union (ODU Worldwide), has endorsed Chief Emeka Anyaoku's advocacy for Nigeria to revert to a regional system of government.

Speaking in Obosi, Obi described this proposal as a viable solution for national stability, economic recovery, and true federalism. He emphasized that the current structure of thirty-six states and a centralized federal system is financially unsustainable, diverting resources from essential sectors like infrastructure and healthcare.

Obi supports Anyaoku's suggestion of six federating regions based on existing geopolitical zones, which he believes would lower governance costs and foster accountability. He recalled the successes of Nigeria's regional arrangement before 1966 in various sectors and argued that returning to this model would enhance innovation and resource management.

Obi called for constitutional amendments through the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly to achieve regional governance and urged various societal groups to advocate for restructuring, clarifying that regionalism should not be seen as a push for disunity.
