Obi Promises Independent Monitoring for 2027 Elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed that the 2027 elections will be markedly different from the 2023 elections, during an interview on Arise Television. He admitted that he and his team took the 2023 elections for granted, trusting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fulfill its promises.

Obi alleged that Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, was working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the last election. He emphasized that he would not make the same mistake in 2027, asserting that his team would independently monitor election results from polling units.

Obi clarified that this system would not create a parallel electoral commission but would ensure accurate results are transmitted to his political organization's situation room. He criticized the ongoing insecurity in Nigeria and discussed the need for modern technology to combat criminal activities, particularly kidnappings and ransom demands.
