Obi Urges INEC to Ensure Credible Osun Election

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to guarantee a free, peaceful, and credible governorship election in Osun State, set for August 15, 2026. In a statement on his X handle, Obi urged political actors and stakeholders to prioritize the people's interests and uphold the electoral process's integrity.

He emphasized that Osun's residents should vote freely and safely, with their votes counted transparently. Obi cautioned against political violence and urged citizens not to let political differences divide communities.

He insisted that security agencies must remain apolitical, with loyalty to Nigeria and the Constitution. Additionally, he called on INEC to protect the election's credibility throughout the electoral process and for the international community to monitor the election closely, reinforcing the importance of democracy as allowing the people to choose.
