Lawal Reveals Obi, Kwankwaso's Concerns Over Atiku in ADC

Babachir Lawal disclosed on Arise Television that both Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso had reservations about Atiku Abubakar's involvement in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as they prepared for the 2027 elections. Lawal stated he was instrumental in convincing Obi and Kwankwaso to join the ADC, despite Obi's initial hesitance and Kwankwaso's fears that Atiku's presence would negatively impact the party's prospects.

Lawal noted that Obi preferred a consensus arrangement for the ADC presidential primary, fearing that an open primary would favor wealthier candidates. The lack of agreement on a consensus candidate ultimately led to Obi and Kwankwaso's exit from the ADC, as they believed the primary process was biased towards Atiku.

Following Atiku's emergence as the ADC presidential candidate, Lawal, who had previously been an ally of Atiku, left the party and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, endorsing the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket for the upcoming election.
