Babachir Lawal Claims Role in Peter Obi's ADC Entry

Babachir Lawal, who served as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stated in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time that he played a crucial role in bringing former Anambra State governor Peter Obi into the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He also mentioned convincing former Kano State governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso to join the ADC.

Lawal highlighted his involvement as one of the founding fathers of the ADC coalition, established on July 2, 2025, which appointed David Mark as national chairman. He noted that Obi was indecisive at times but ultimately committed to joining the ADC due to Lawal's persuasion.

Lawal expressed that Kwankwaso was hesitant to join because of concerns regarding Atiku Abubakar's influence within the party. Following the ADC's primary election, which produced Atiku as the presidential candidate, Kwankwaso left the party, alleging that the election was rigged.

Recently, Lawal joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress to support Obi and Kwankwaso as presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively.
