Female Politicians Eye Ogun Governorship in 2027

As the countdown to the 2027 gubernatorial elections in Ogun State begins, four female politicians are emerging as key contenders for the seat currently held by Governor Dapo Abiodun. Noimot Salako-Oyedun, the current Deputy Governor, is a 60-year-old real estate expert and civil engineer from Ado-Odo Ota.

Although she has not officially declared her candidacy, she has garnered support and is seen as a formidable candidate. Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has a rich political history, having served as a health commissioner and senator before a 15-year hiatus from politics.

She recently returned to the political scene, aiming to leverage her experience. Sarafa Yusuf, a veteran broadcast journalist and special adviser to Governor Abiodun, is also testing the waters for a potential run.

The dynamics of female leadership in Ogun State are highlighted, as historically, the governorship has been male-dominated since the state's creation in 1976.
