Ogun Family Demands Justice for Alleged Police Killing

The family of Owolabi Oniyiku, who was allegedly shot dead by policemen from a border patrol team in Ipokia Local Government Area, Ogun State, is calling for justice. They have appealed to the Ogun State government and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the incident and ensure accountability.

Kolade Oniyiku, a relative, recounted that Owolabi was returning home for the Oro festival when he encountered police officers at Akinde Junction. After an argument over passing through a police checkpoint, an officer allegedly opened fire on him.

The family expressed disappointment over the lack of contact from police following the incident. Owolabi was the primary breadwinner, supporting his mother and younger siblings, and his death has left the family devastated.

Kolade clarified that reports about Owolabi's wife giving birth were incorrect, as it was his younger brother's wife. The family is urging Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene and end the alleged extortion by police along the road.
