Ogun State Discontinues Monthly Sanitation for Daily Practices

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the decision to discontinue the monthly sanitation exercise, stating that the state has transitioned to a system of daily environmental sanitation. This announcement was made during the commissioning of waste management equipment, operational vehicles, and an office block to celebrate the first six months in office of Hon. Farouk Adeniyi Akintunde, the Special Adviser and Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), in Abeokuta.

Represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, Abiodun explained that the move aims to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment through efficient daily waste collection and disposal. He noted that residents have adapted to daily sanitation practices, eliminating the need for a monthly shutdown of economic activities.

The governor also mentioned plans to acquire additional compactors and waste management equipment to strengthen OGWAMA's capacity. He commended the cooperation of residents and stakeholders in maintaining a clean environment and reiterated the administration's commitment to sustainable waste management.
