Ogun Seals Dahua Paper Company for Illegal Dumpsite
The Ogun State Waste Management Authority has sealed Dahua Paper Company Limited located in Owiwi Village, near Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, for allegedly operating an illegal dumpsite and burning waste. This action was taken due to violations of the state’s Environmental and Public Health Law 2006 and Section 2(b)(a) of the OGWAMA Law 2020, which prohibit open burning of waste.
The enforcement followed months of monitoring and intelligence gathering. Faruk Akintunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, led the enforcement team and reported that the company was found dumping waste opposite its factory, contaminating nearby water sources.
Two lorries used for waste disposal were also seized. Akintunde stated that the company would remain sealed and face legal consequences for its environmental violations.
He warned others involved in illegal waste disposal to register with OGWAMA for proper waste management to avoid legal repercussions.
