Ogun Seals Dahua Paper Company for Illegal Waste Practices

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) sealed Dahua Paper Company Ltd., located in Owowo Village near Abeokuta, for operating an illegal dumpsite and engaging in the open burning of waste. This enforcement action, led by OGWAMA Managing Director Mr. Faruk Akintunde on Tuesday, followed months of monitoring and intelligence gathering.

The company was found dumping and burning waste at a site opposite its factory, violating the Ogun State Environmental and Public Health Law 2006 and Section 2(b)(a) of the OGWAMA Law 2020, which prohibits open burning of waste and imposes severe penalties for offenders. Akintunde stated that the illegal activities posed a risk of contaminating water bodies and underground water, endangering the health of nearby villagers who rely on the affected river.

Additionally, two lorries used by the company for waste transport were confiscated. The company will remain closed while facing legal consequences, and Akintunde warned others against similar violations.
