Ogun Governor Advocates for Tree Planting Initiative

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, called on residents to view tree planting as a collective responsibility essential for environmental protection and combating climate change. Speaking in Abeokuta, he highlighted the immediate impacts of climate change, including rising temperatures and biodiversity loss.

Abiodun emphasized that the true value of tree planting lies in ensuring seedlings grow into mature trees that can absorb carbon dioxide and provide various ecological benefits. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration for prioritizing environmental sustainability through initiatives like the Nigeria Energy Transition Plan and afforestation programs.

The Governor urged all stakeholders to act as custodians of the environment, stressing that planting trees without proper care would limit their long-term benefits. The State Head of Service, Olanrewaju Saka, and Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, echoed the call for public involvement in tree planting and environmental protection, particularly encouraging students and young people to participate actively.
