101-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Selling Cannabis

Esther Ogunmabo, a 101-year-old great-grandmother, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ilisan, Ogun State, on August 15, 2026, for selling 90 grams of skunk, a strain of cannabis, in small sachets. Ogunmabo explained that she turned to selling drugs after a fire destroyed her provisions shop.

She indicated that her daughter, who lives in Lagos, supplied her with cannabis every four days for resale. The NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest as part of the agency's nationwide operations.

Following her arrest, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and placed on counseling due to her advanced age. Additionally, her daughter was also arrested in connection with the case.
