101-Year-Old Grandmother Arrested for Drug Dealing

Esther Ogunmabo, a 101-year-old great-grandmother, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Ilisan, Ogun State, for dealing in illicit drugs. She was found with retail sachets of skunk, a strain of cannabis, weighing 90 grams, which she claimed to sell to locals.

Ogunmabo stated that she began engaging in the illicit drug trade after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire. She revealed that her daughter, who lives in Lagos, arranges the supply of the drugs to her every four days.

Following her arrest, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and placed on counselling due to her advanced age, while her daughter was also arrested. The NDLEA continues to combat drug trafficking across Nigeria, as highlighted by this unusual case involving a centenarian.
