Nigeria's Hospitality Sector Needs Better Policies, Says Expert

Olugbenga Sunday stresses that improved policies are essential for unlocking Nigeria's hospitality potential, noting that service quality is directly influenced by skilled personnel. He points out that taxation policies and quality assurance measures are often inadequately implemented, which hampers the sector's growth.

Sunday calls for government support in areas such as power supply and infrastructure, citing that 40% of hotel income is spent on power. He also mentions the upcoming 8th edition of the Hotel Management Conference Africa (HMCA), set for July 11-12 in Lagos, which aims to raise service standards and attract participation from various African regions.

The conference has grown significantly, with participation from 27 states and international attendees from West and East Africa. Sunday emphasizes the importance of mentorship and training in the hospitality industry to improve operational standards and service delivery.
