Investigation Launched into Missing Hospital Donations

Hon Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad, who represents the Umaisha/Ugya Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, donated hospital materials, including approximately 50 orthopaedic mattresses and over 90 fans, to General Hospital, Umaisha, more than two years ago. During a recent visit, he was unable to locate these items, prompting him to demand explanations from hospital officials in a viral video.

Sa’ad acknowledged discrepancies between the quantities he mentioned and what was supplied, stating that some materials were reportedly stored while others were used in staff quarters. A hospital official indicated that some mattresses had been temporarily taken by discharged patients, raising concerns about the lack of an asset register to document such movements.

In response, the Nasarawa State Hospitals Management Board has formed a committee to investigate, and Governor Abdullahi Sule has instructed the Commissioner for Health to ensure accountability, with potential dismissal and prosecution for those found responsible for any diversion of the donated materials.
