Onanuga Refutes Claims of Tinubu's Re-Election Promise

Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesman for Nigeria, dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu promised not to seek a second term if electricity supply did not improve. During an interview, Onanuga explained that Tinubu's remarks from his 2022 campaign were taken out of context and should not be interpreted as a firm pledge to forgo re-election.

He stated that the administration is committed to transforming the power sector and has made significant efforts to address electricity supply issues. Onanuga acknowledged that electricity supply has not yet reached the desired level but attributed setbacks to long-standing challenges, including gas shortages and legacy debts owed to gas suppliers.

He emphasized that the federal government remains dedicated to tackling these issues to improve electricity generation and distribution nationwide.
