NNPP Criticizes NDC for Choosing Kwankwaso as Running Mate

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) publicly criticized the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for its decision to select Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the upcoming 2027 election. NNPP's National Secretary-General, Ogini Olaposi, issued a statement on Monday, September 7, asserting that Kwankwaso's previous political actions should have prompted the NDC to reconsider his selection.

Olaposi emphasized that the NNPP had previously provided Kwankwaso with a platform during the 2023 presidential election, which he allegedly abandoned after gaining prominence. He stated, “Once a betrayer, always a betrayer,” warning that Kwankwaso's involvement could lead to future problems for the NDC.

Furthermore, Olaposi dismissed claims that the NNPP was transferred to Kwankwaso by its founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, asserting that the party remains under the control of its Board of Trustees. He cautioned that Peter Obi's popularity alone would not secure victory for the NDC in the 2027 election, as voters would also evaluate Kwankwaso's political history.
