Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa Reopens Ikare-Akoko Mosque

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State officiated the reopening of the Ikare-Akoko Central Mosque on Tuesday, coinciding with the annual Ramadan iftar prayer. The mosque had been closed since October 18, 2022, following its closure by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu due to concerns over potential violence stemming from leadership disputes regarding the appointment of the mosque's imam.

During the reopening ceremony, Aiyedatiwa declared the mosque open for worship once again and reinstated Sheikh Abubakar Muham Abba as the chief imam, who will continue to lead Islamic prayers and religious activities in the town. The event was attended by notable figures, including Kabiyesi Oba Akadri Momoh Olukar, the Grand Mufti of the state, and the chief imam of Ikare.

Governor Aiyedatiwa's decision to reopen the mosque signals the end of nearly four years of closure and aims to foster peace and harmony among the community and religious leaders in Ikare-Akoko.
