Ondo State Launches New Healthcare Reform Agenda

The Ondo State Government has introduced a fresh healthcare reform agenda aimed at enhancing medicine security, boosting local pharmaceutical production, and improving diagnostic capacity. Dr. Samuel Adekola, the Senior Consultant on Pharmaceutical and Medical Investments, announced these reforms during a visit to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH).

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the establishment of the Ondo State Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Hub to secure the state's medicine supply chain and stimulate local manufacturing. Additionally, critical diagnostic equipment will be procured for healthcare facilities to enhance early disease detection and improve patient outcomes.

Adekola emphasized the importance of UNIMEDTH in implementing these reforms and called for collaboration with the Ondo State Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency (OSDHCMA), which will evolve into a State Drugs and Health Commodities Distribution Centre. A nutrition model for in-patient care was also announced, focusing on tailored meals for patients.
