Ondo State Government Orders Removal of Abandoned Vehicles

The Ondo State Government has issued a directive requiring owners of abandoned heavy-duty vehicles, trucks, machinery, and large watercraft to remove them within seven days, from September 30 to October 7, 2026. This announcement was made by Prince Wellington Oriade Adebawo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response and Safety Enforcement, during a press conference in Akure.
Adebawo stated that these abandoned vehicles and equipment pose significant safety risks to motorists, pedestrians, and users of waterways. A survey conducted across the 18 local government areas identified these obstructions, prompting the government to act.
Owners are urged to relocate their abandoned trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and boats to designated safe locations. Adebawo warned that non-compliance by October 7 would lead to enforcement actions, including removal and impoundment of the vehicles, which may be subject to forfeiture under relevant laws.
He emphasized that there would be no extension of the deadline.
