Protests Erupt Over APC Final Candidate List in Ondo

Protests occurred in Ilaje Local Government Area, Ondo State, on Tuesday, following the All Progressives Congress (APC) confirming its final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections. This protest marks the second major demonstration linked to internal crises within the party in two weeks.

The protests aimed to draw attention to the APC national leadership regarding the final candidate list submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party's National Working Committee (NWC) stated that the final list complied with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa attempted to reverse the recommendations of the appeal committee in Abuja but was unsuccessful. The protests highlighted dissatisfaction among party members, particularly regarding the retention of Hon.

Donald Ojogo as the candidate for Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency, replacing Mr. Leke Akingboye.

The APC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the protests, which underscore ongoing discontent within the party as it prepares for the upcoming elections.
