Protest in Sokoto Demands Security Amid Bandit Attacks

On Friday morning, residents displaced by bandit attacks in Sokoto organized a protest, blocking the Tambuwal-Jega and Tambuwal-Aleiro roads. The protesters, from communities including Margai, Girkau, Romon Liman, Romon Sarki, and Masu, demanded better security after repeated attacks forced them to flee.

The protest began early and continued until around 1 PM, with demonstrators expressing anger over the lack of government assistance. Videos showed youths chanting “We want justice” and burning tires.

A resident reported that the protesters later set fire to an APC office, clarifying that they were not affiliated with opposition parties. During the protest, Usama Ibrahim was shot in the thigh, allegedly by security personnel.

The protest highlighted growing concerns over insecurity in Tambuwal and Kebbe LGAs, affecting farming and economic activities. Residents urged the Federal and Sokoto State governments to take urgent measures for their protection and facilitate their return to their communities.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the deployment of personnel to control the situation.
