Soldier Killed as Troops Foil Terrorist Attack in Kukawa

On February 20, 2023, a coordinated multi-pronged terrorist assault was launched against military positions in Kukawa, resulting in an overnight battle that lasted until the early hours of February 21. The attack involved gun trucks, motorcycles, and foot soldiers.

Despite the assault, troops mounted a determined defense and engaged the insurgents in intense combat. Military sources reported that air support was deployed to assist ground forces, leading to the destruction of one gun truck and several motorcycles used by the fleeing fighters.

During the operation, troops recovered 13 AK-47 rifles, 16 loaded magazines, and three handheld radios. The engagement resulted in the death of one soldier, while other personnel were evacuated and reported to be in stable condition.

The military maintained that the coordinated ground and air operations demonstrated sustained pressure on insurgent elements, aimed at degrading their combat capabilities across the theater.
