Kaduna Government Disputes KASU Staff Departure Claims

The Kaduna state government has refuted claims that approximately 200 academic staff, including professors, have departed from Kaduna State University (KASU) due to poor working conditions, stating that only 59 staff members have left since January 2024. This information was disclosed by Prof. Bello Ayuba, the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, during a press briefing at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.

Of the 59 staff who left, 17 were professors and associate professors, with departures attributed to voluntary resignations and transfers. Ayuba emphasized that staff movements are normal in the university system, influenced by factors such as new universities, career progression, and retirements.

The state government has invested over N896 million in KASU staff welfare and has addressed outstanding personnel liabilities exceeding N1 billion. Additionally, N146.4 million was allocated to clear withheld salaries, and over N300 million was spent on accreditation and resource verification, resulting in the accreditation of 57 academic programs.
