Operation UDO KA Dismantles IPOB/ESN Strongholds in Anambra

On August 22, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force South East, under Operation UDO KA, conducted an operation in Anambra State, targeting identified strongholds of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The operation took place around Obene and Abator villages within the Ochuche and Umunankwo communities of Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Collaborating with the Maritime Component, the Department of State Services, and the Anambra Vigilante Group, the Nigerian Army reported that armed elements opened fire as troops approached but fled the scene. During the pursuit, blood stains were observed, indicating potential injuries among the fleeing members.

One member of the armed group was neutralized, while others escaped with the body of another neutralized member. Troops recovered two pump-action guns, two motorcycles, and materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), marking a significant operational gain that would hinder the group’s capacity for future attacks.

The operation aims to maintain pressure on armed groups and prevent them from regrouping.
